As mentioned, the team/studio wanted to see a less aggressive Godzilla, so I went with the slightly less alligator faced Gojira of the early 2000s, but still monster looking. For that I referenced the 1984 reboot.
One of the things that’s changed over the years is how big Godzilla’s thighs are. In some films, especially the new ones, he’s almost all thighs! I guess we know where eating a building goes… straight to your hips!
I like him to look a little more streamlined, so I try to keep that balloon effect on his legs to a minimum.
