On the Beano Boss/Editor Reader strips I do, I have no control over what the families send in as reference of their kids – DRAW MAH KID! Sometimes you can tell there’s a creative in the family, as the pics are clear and from a couple of angles, but most of the time they’re taken 30 meters away. Now and then, I’ll even get shots of the kid where you can’t see the face at all– :-{
In this particular case, the kid was practically a real life Gegege no Kitaro, and all I could do was guess at what he looked like. What do you do? Well focused on his hair, which there was a lot of. I did get to draw some fun monkeys, cause they usually don’t complain about their likenesses.
