Bugs Bunny is, without a doubt, the king of animated comedy; and that’s a hill I’ll die on. He’s not even my favorite character, but it’s a fact. Many directors handled him in various cartoons, but the best always seemed to come from Chuck Jones, like “Rabbit Seasoning” or “What’s Opera, Doc”. Below are poses from a couple different shorts, but most are lifted from the matador sequence of “Bully for Bugs”; where he ends up in a bullfighting ring. The bull deserves a post all to himself, and I hope to do one later, but Bugs’ dance with the muleta (red cape) is awe inspiring. You want to see some beautiful animation, watch that sequence frame by frame, then try to tell me it didn’t demand serious art skills.
