I love the Looney Tunes shorts with the bulldog, Marc Anthony, and the kitten, Pussyfoot, although I always assumed the cat was a girl, apparently it’s a boy. Marc Anthony, was always the most expressive, and Chuck Jones seemed to love the design. The prototype for him was in 1951’s “Cheese Chasers”, about mice that want to be eaten by a cat; which I’m going to do a post solely on that cartoon later. An identical version of Marc Anthony shows up in the short “Go fly a kit”, and a very similar one was used for the dogs in the Jones produced Tom n Jerry cartoons “The Cat’s Me Ouch” and “Much Ado About Mousing”. Even though Abe Levitow directed a bunch of those, he obviously understood Jones’ use of facial expressions.
