As I said earlier, the classic cartoons are a source of joy, and for me it starts with Looney Tunes. Every fan has strong opinions about their favorite character, short, and director. I love them all, but (I admit) some more than others. Sketching these cartoons has given me an appreciation for works that I overlooked before. Breaking down the animation frame-by-frame, allows you to see the brilliance in the work. I’ve really gotten to enjoy finding the flow of an image, which is something I never truly understood in the old Preston Blair book as a kid. I’ll admit, it was especially over my head with the Walt Stanchfield and Richard Williams books I looked at later on. If art is a journey, I guess I’ve been lost in the woods most of my life.
