When I draw Joe, one of the things I try to give a little extra attention to are the details. I’m not talking about the toy stuff that fans rake us over the coals for if we’re even slightly off. Rather I’m talking about things like clothing, and helmets. It would be a lie to say I’m as good at this as Butch Guice, or Mike Perkins, but I feel that a lot of artists who are drawing military books make helmets that look like they were made by Kitchen Aid; more bowls than anything army related. It’s weird because the gear sits higher on the head than one would imagine, as they flair out at the rim. It’s an odd shape, and frustrating to draw… but I’m working on it!
